What is a power over Ethernet clock, or PoE digital clock, and why do you need one in your company?
- Understand the importance of timekeeping to your business. In 2002 the IEEE standardized and defined Precision Protocol Time (PTP) for use in synchronizing clocks across a computer network. Since then, time on a computer server has been measured by “stratum,” which indicates on a scale of one to 15 how accurate the time is, with fifteen being the least accurate. Normally, networks only utilize two of the pairs of wires in these cables, even though they actually have four pairs. The PoE digital clock is a very accurate timekeeping device, receiving the time via Network Time Protocol (NTP) through a Cat5 or Cat6 cables. Network time Protocol has been in use since before 1985. This makes it one of the oldest protocols that the Internet still uses. The PoE digital clock typically comes with a web interface for programming, and a PoE digital clock can be controlled over IP monitors when changes need to be implemented system-wide.
